The David Baum Prize
The David Baum Prize was launched in 2011 in memory of the late Professor David Baum.
It is awarded annually to an outstanding young paediatrician who is based in a low income country and who has made a significant difference to the practice of child healthcare in their country.
The first prize was awarded to Dr Bill Kigathi, a paediatrician from Kenya, who has played a key part in rolling out ETAT+ training to many of Kenya's doctors and undergraduate medical students.
Professor Fred Were, Chair of the Kenya Paediatric Association who nominated Dr Kigathi described him as "a young leader with tremendous potential. He richly deserves the presentation."
